We had a job recently in which the construction crew advised the homeowner to bring in an awning professional because they did not feel qualified to correctly reinstall the awning after completing the siding replacement.
Skeptical at first, the homeowner ended up giving a high five to the construction company because, once Awning Pros was involved, the homeowner saw the preplanning that had to go into reinstalling the awning.
The homeowner watched as Bruce (Awning Pros’ owner) removed the awning and preplanned where and how to reinstall it after the new T1-11 siding was installed. Bruce had to measure and predrill the holes in the supporting 2X4s so that the new awning bolts were exactly in the new holes. This preplanning assured a correctly installed awning without any additional holes marring the new siding.
The homeowner acknowledged that he was surprised at the level of detail and accuracy that goes into an awning install and was very appreciative of the construction crew for requesting the involvement of a professional. This construction crew has obviously dealt with awnings in the past and realized it takes specialty expertise. Not just anyone can do it – correctly!
Something as simple as a construction crew removing the awning and putting up new siding can lead to a great deal of complication with the rehang. Where are the holes? Did they fill the holes we would need to use to mount the awning? What did they fill the holes with? Is it the right product to assure stability of the awning once hung?
Building contractors may be very good at what they do when it comes to remodeling, but most do not have any idea of what it takes to hang an awning correctly and securely. Without knowing how to do so, the homeowner might end up with a sail that is torn off in a high wind or a retractable arm that comes down without warning.
These are important facts that a homeowner should consider when remodeling. If in doubt, give us a call first. We can advise you of the best way to proceed. We would rather get ahead of the reinstall.
